HIPAA Violations - Scenario-based eLearning

This microlearning project is an eLearning solution. It teaches coworkers how to identify and report HIPAA violations in the workplace.

The Problem:

This healthcare organization struggled with HIPAA violations involving employees snooping and sharing PHI without authorization. The Office of Corporate Compliance reached out to me to collaborate on a learning solution to help all coworkers understand and comply with HIPAA regulations.

The Learning Solution:

After performing a Learning Needs analysis with a cross-functional team of subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to identify skill gaps and pain points, I recommended that we design an animated scenario-based eLearning experience.

This solution is ideal because:

  • Scenario-based learning is a great opportunity to put a learner in someone else’s shoes and see how different decisions could lead to different outcomes. 

  • Compliance training scenarios are great for testing an employee’s decisions based on situations.
