Find Help - Simulation

Find Help is a social services and community resource finder. This simulation teaches the learners how to utilize this new resource when working with patients.

Audience:

Internal patient-facing employees in a healthcare organization

Tools Used:

Articulate Storyline, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe XD, Murf.AI Text-to-Speech

The Problem:

A manager from the Population Health department requested a learning design consultation on a new community resource finder they wanted to implement in their Epic system. They wanted to upload a PowerPoint “eLearning” to the organization’s LMS and use this to teach patient-facing employees how to use the finder.

I spent some time convincing them that uploading a PowerPoint does not equate to an effective eLearning course. PowerPoint works well for presentations where only one person speaks and everyone else listens. But it's not the best for getting learners involved. To engage them effectively, you need activities where they can participate and take control of their learning, going at their own speed and really understanding concepts as they go.

The Learning Solution:

After performing a Learning Needs analysis with a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) and employees to identify skill gaps and pain points, I recommended that we design a scenario-based simulation eLearning experience.

This solution is ideal because:

  • Simulations engage learners by providing a dynamic and interactive learning experience that fosters a sense of connection with the material.

  • It provides an immersive and interactive environment where employees can practice their skills in realistic scenarios and learn from mistakes without any real-world consequences.

  • Interactive content engages learners, helping them retain information.
